Soaking feet in warm water (with temperature 37-39
o
C) is a technique that evokes soparifik’s effect
(feeling asleep) and overcomes sleeping disorder. Sleeping disorder is not easily solved. Therefore, it will influence
life quality and relates to mortalities. The normal sleeping quatity of elderly (age>60 years) is 6 hours per day.
The purpose of the research was to know the influence of soaking feet in warm water to elderly’s sleeping
quantity on elderly who experiences sleeping disorder at Santo Yoseph Kediri Nursing Home.
The research’s design was Pre Experiment research with One-Group pre test post test approach. The
population was all elderly at Santo Yoseph Kediri Nursing Home that experience sleep disorder. Using Purposive
Technique Sampling, it was obtained 22 respondents who met inclusion criteria. The independent variable was
soaking feet in warm water while the dependent variable was sleeping quantity. The data were collected using
elderly’s sleeping observation sheet and analyzed using Wilcoxson statistic test with significance level á = 0.05.
The result of the research showed elderly’s sleeping quantity before given soaking feet in warm water
was 4.88 hours per day. Further, the sleeping quantity after given soaking feet in warm water was 6.20 hours
per day. Obviously, the elderly’s sleeping quantity increased 1.32 hours per day after given soaking feet in
warm water.
In conclusion, soaking feet in warm water influenced elderly’s sleeping quantity on elderly who
experiences sleeping disorder at Santo Yoseph Kediri Nursing Home.
